State-of-the-Art Examinations

During your check-up, Dr. Young will take a close look at your teeth, gums, bite, and other areas that influence oral health. We’ll take x-rays, typically once a year, so that we can clearly view inner structures that aren’t visible to the naked eye and form the most complete picture of your oral health. Once we have this valuable information, the doctor will sit down with you and discuss possible treatment options that could restore health and beauty to your smile.

Professional Cleanings

Even patients who keep up with oral hygiene at home can miss small areas between and behind teeth. Over time, plaque develops and takes hold of these areas, causing build-up and calcium deposits that can no longer be removed by regular brushing. Thankfully, our skilled hygienists can get the job done with the help of special tools. By the time your appointment is over, you’ll have a smile that looks beautifully polished and feels refreshed.

Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are one of the many preventive dentistry services offered by the dedicated Larry Young Dental team. Often recommended for children who are still developing their oral hygiene skills, sealants are a thin coat of plastic that seals out bacteria preventing plaque and tartar buildup that may lead to tooth decay or gum disease. The procedure is quick and easy and can be completed as part of any six month checkup and provide a protective coating for up to ten years.

Fluoride Treatment

Another preventive service frequently recommended for younger patients is topical fluoride treatment. Fluoride attracts a number of minerals that fortify tooth enamel, reduce dental sensitivity, and decrease the risk for tooth decay. Topical fluoride gel can be applied to teeth as part of any dental checkup. We frequently recommend kids receive fluoride treatments as part of their regular hygiene visits. Adults who experience dental sensitivity or frequent tooth decay should also consider topical fluoride treatments at least once each year.

Periodontal Therapy

Up to 80 percent of the population unknowingly has some form of gum disease. Characterized by a persistent bacterial infection surrounding one tooth or several teeth, gum disease causes little discomfort and produces few obvious symptoms in the early stages. When periodontal disease is not treated, it will spread and compromise gums, teeth, bone, and it can lead to heart disease and strokes, as well as diabetes and pregnancy complications.
